Runtime reliability.  A well-maintained diesel generator can run continuously for 8,000-10,000 hours between major services. For critical operations, that kind of endurance matters.

Prime power  means the generator is your main electricity source, running continuously for extended periods. Mining operations, remote construction camps, and off-grid facilities typically need prime-rated units.

Standby power  means the generator kicks in only when grid power fails. Hospitals, data centers, and commercial buildings typically use standby-rated units.

A generator rated for standby use is not designed for continuous operation. Running it as a prime power source will shorten its lifespan significantly and void most warranties.
